The BiggerersLadies and gentleman, I have finally finished the largest book I may have read all year – #Tometopple books included. The Biggerers by Amy Lilwall is a massive 500+ page dystopian, near future novel by a strong new voice in the genre.
The Hazel WoodI am quite far behind in reading this book, but I am certainly glad that I finally picked this up. The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert is a truly fantastic novel about a teenage girl in search for mother, the mysterious Hazel Wood where her grandmother once lived, and the legacy of her great storyteller grandmother herself.
My Hero Academia Vol. 15The third season of My Hero Academia might be winding down, but there’s still plenty of manga volumes to go. Tomorrow, October 2, 2018, marks the release of My Hero Academia Vol 15 by Kohei Horikoshi. This volume explores heroism in a post All Might world, precaution and careful planning versus immediately jumping into a probably dangerous situation, among other things.
Aquicorn CoveLast year I discovered a middle grade graphic novel that stole my heart titled The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill. When I saw that another fantasy middle grade graphic novel was being published by the same author, I jumped on the chance to read it. Aquicorn Cove by Katie O’Neill is a beautiful graphic novel that talks about family, loss, environmentalism, and is sure to warm your heart.
Dragon Goes House-Hunting Vol 1I found it. I found the manga I always needed. I’ve always loved humorous fantasy. The Slayers light novels are a favorite, and I’ve been looking for something else to add to my ‘reread constantly’ list. And you know what? Dragon Goes House-Hunting by Kawo Tanuki and Choco Aya has absolutely made that list.
Garrison Girl: An Attack on Titan NovelI was intrigued but wary when I first saw Garrison Girl: An Attack on Titan Novel by Rachel Aaron. I am usually always wary when I hear about spin offs. Sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised. Other times I’m left feeling disappointed. For a long time, I didn’t know how I felt about this novel. But, in the end, I’m glad I read it. Here’s why.
JLA: Riddle of the BeastI knew nothing about this graphic novel when I picked it up at the library. All I knew was that it was a fantasy story and I liked the art when I was flipping through it. That was certainly enough for me, and I’m happy I took a chance on this title. JLA: Riddle of the Beast is written by Alan Grant with art by Michael Wm. Kaluta, Carl Critchlow, Simon Davis,s Glenn Fabry, Jon Foster, Rafa Garres, D. Alexander Gregory, Alex Horley, Kenny Lopez, Liam R. McCormack-Sharp, Hermann Mejia, Jim Murray, Andrew Robinson, Greg Staples, Saverio Tenuta, John Watson, and Martin T. William.
My Brother's Husband Vol 2If there is any manga whose release date I’ve been looking forward to it would be My Brother’s Husband Vol 2 by Gengoroh Tagame. I was so ecstatic when a review copy was sent that I read the whole thing cover to cover as soon as I pulled it out of the packaging. My Brother’s Husband is a story about family, loss, grief, guilt, and acceptance. It is a story we can all relate to in our own ways, and it is a story that demands to be read.
My Brother’s Husband Vol 2 continues the story of Mike, Yaichi, and Kana. Plot in a nutshell – Yaichi’s divorced and his somewhat estranged brother recently deceased. One day Mike, a Canadian man and his brother’s widow, shows up on his doorstep looking to connect with the family he never knew.
Taste of MarrowI haven’t had quite this much fun with a series in a very long time. There is something inherently wonderful about a cast of flawed characters traipsing about in hippo infested waters of the American South. Today we are going to take a look at Taste of Marrow by Sarah Gailey, the second novella in the River of Teeth series.
This story picks up two months after the conclusion of River of Teeth. The characters who survived book one are split into two – Adelia and Hero in one place and Archie and Houndstooth in another. A lot of themes are touched up on this novella. There are discussions on love and what you must give up or not give up for love. Friendship, family, companionship.
The Long Way Down (Daniel Faust #1)I feel like I should open this review like what you see at an AA meeting. “Hi, my name is Brittney and I am addicted to Craig Schaefer novels.”
So, now that I’ve got that out of the way and finished all the Harmony Black books that are currently available I decided to go back to where it all began, the Daniel Faust series. And boy oh boy was I in for a treat.
