The second volume of Golfisch is being released tomorrow, April 24, 2018 by TokyoPop. After reading Volume 1 a few months ago, I was extremely excited to dig into the next volume. Goldfisch Vol 2 by Nana Yaa is just as fun as the first volume, and a great read for fans of shonen.

I was intrigued when I saw another Cutie Honey manga was going to be released. Honestly, I’m always intrigued when another edition of an older franchise has been released. So I got my hands on a copy as soon as I could to see what the latest incarnation of Cutie Honey was all about. Cutie Honey a Go Go! is a new standalone manga in the Cutie Honey franchise by Go Nagai, Itou Shinpei, and Anno Hideaki.

It has been a very long time since any book has made me want to pick up my old quote journal and copy lines down. The journal isn’t pretty. It’s not one of those moleskin bullet journals, just a pocket sized notebook an old teacher gave us with some inspirational quotes after high school graduation. I’m not sure where it is now. I never thought I’d go looking for it again. But An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon made me want to dig that notebook out and copy down lines right from chapter 1.

Horror manga is a genre I have long loved, starting with Junji Ito’s work. More recently I discovered The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service by Eiji Otsuka. Funnily, once I was finished with the first volume of the omnibus and ready to purchase the second volume it was out of stock on nearly every website I usual frequent for manga purchases. Thankfully, my brother works at a bookstore and was able to snag a copy! The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Omnibus Book 2 is a great horror manga that more people should read.

I love shonen. It’s probably my absolute favorite genre of manga. So when I received a copy of a newly translated shonen manga I jumped on it. Goldfisch by Nana Yaa is a great action story set in a slightly dystopian world with endearing characters.

While I sit on the fence most of the time with retellings of popular fairy tales or legends, I decided to give this one a try.
