Cursed: An Anthology of Dark Fairy TalesAnother fantastic anthology edited by Marie O’Regan and Paul Kane has been published by Titan Books. Following 2019’s Wonderland: An Anthology comes Cursed: An Anthology of Dark Fairy Tales. Eighteen short stories are within this volume, bookended by two poems by extremely prolific author Jane Yolen.
The Golden KeyTraditional Victorian gothic is mixed with elements of mystery and fantasy in The Golden Key by Marian Womack. In this, as of yet, standalone novel, the supernatural clash against psychology and detective work. Underneath that lies something more than the Victorian indulgence for séances and tarot readings. There’s something uncanny happening, something that can’t be explained by normal measures but can be felt and seen nonetheless.
No Longer HumanThe latest manga from Junji Ito is somewhat different from his usual fare. No Longer Human by Junji Ito is Ito’s take on Osamu Dazai’s novel of the same title. A character study more than true horror, this story is filled more with commentary on the human psyche than the monsters and ghosts that frequent Ito’s pages.
WanderersA tale of humanity and utter destruction, Wanderers by Chuck Wendig is a fantastic epic sure to please fans of multiple genres. What begins as a mysterious illness effecting a few hundred people soon spirals into much more as the entire country takes notice. This seven hundred page epic takes readers from one coast to the other on a journey that takes you right to the end of the world.
No Guns Life, Vol. 1No Guns Life, Vol. 1 by Tasuku Karasuma is a seinen science fiction manga which has an anime adaptation airing this season, Fall 2019. In a future world, some humans have become the extended, people augmented with mechanical body parts which greatly increase their physical abilities. Juzo Inui is one of the extended, with a gun in place of a head. He is a Resolver, solving conflicts between the extended and regular humans.
The Wize Wize Beasts of Wizardly WizdomsSeveral chapter-long stories set in a wizarding school make up the new single volume manga The Wize Wize Beasts of the Wizarding Wizdoms by Nagabe, mangaka of the series The Girl from the Other Side: Siuil, A Run.
