Another mystery/thriller series and another author who has impressed me stylistically. However, there were things I didn’t love in this book and when I look back I remember why I didn’t immediately start book two.

Review- The Compound

The Compound

Publisher: Feiwel and Friends

I picked this book up off of one of those “Blind Date With A Book” tables at Barnes & Noble. The description of this book read “Let’s build a fortress to protect our family. Oh shit! We can’t get out!” That, along with the genre of YA being marked on the wrapped book I decided it could be interesting. Purchasing the book (along with a stack of others) I came home and opened the gift I’d given to myself, hoping it was the right choice off the table.

Yes, I’m breaking more standards on our lovely blog to talk about true crime again. This story, however, has some twists and turns as it does focus on the author’s obsession for finding answers about the Golden State Killer.

I admit, I’m always hesitant when it comes espionage stories. They can be so hit or miss but as I’ve read and enjoyed Dugoni’s other series, Tracy Crosswhite, I gave this one a go. And I was not disappointed.

I am the first person to admit that my obsession with true crime is a bit extreme and that my love of all things mystery, murder and crime is probably not the best thing for my psyche at time but, hey, it’s my thing. Apparently it is many other people’s “thing” as well seeing as how popular the podcast by the two authors has become and how they published a book about their lives. This isn’t the normal book you’ll see on our blog but as it was one of my most looked forward to and important reads of 2019 here I am reviewing it. Okay? Let’s dive in.

Craig Schaefer, you have done it again.

For those of you who don’t know, I have a slight obsession with Craig Schaefer and all his works. If you’re wondering why that is you can check out my reviews for his other works (the Daniel Faust Series and the Harmony Black series).

Okay. Okay. So….I think this is the final book in the series. I am unsure if I’m willing to let these characters go just yet but, honestly, Melinda Leigh did such a fantastic job I can’t complain if this is the actual end.
